This is a long, rambly post about my day. 22nd April 2012 - Virgin London Marathon

Date Created: 27:04:2012

Sunday was the 2012 Virgin London Marathon, the day I have been training for, for the past 12 weeks, it was finally here!!I travelled to London on the Friday and went to the Expo, I was so excited, like a kid in a toy shop.  I spent far too much money at the Expo but it was worth it but I am sure Kai and my bank account disagree with that.  I manged to run over running legend Ron Hill with Elsa's pushchair, I was mortified and he was so lovely and made a joke that he wasnt run....

Weeks 11 and 12 - the final countdown

Date Created: 27:04:2012

The last 2 weeks of training have been going great, I have managed all my sessions and apart from feeling tired its been going ok and I am looking forward to race day.I have seen Jodie my physio once a week about my leg, since I fell over its been really sore and stiff when I have started running but once I am running it has eased off and I have been fine, the only real issue is the pain in my shin the next day, Jodie gave me some accupuncture and that has really helped...looks like I w....

I bloody did it!

Date Created: 27:04:2012

I did you know. I ran the Virgin London Marathon. And I mean ran. I didn’t stop and walk or even fall over. My official time was 4:55:52 seconds and if you’re interested, I’ll share with you the version that doesn’t take 4:55:52 to explain. I travelled down to London on the Friday morning with “Good Lucks” from friends and “Hugs” from the family. “Be careful” seemed to be the most common advice. I wanted to go on the Fr....

Week 10: Taper time

Date Created: 23:04:2012

Well we are at week 10 already, not long now till London and my plan has started to taper, I cant believe I am tapering, which means its all nearly over! My plan doesnt feel like I am really tapering, its really what I would have run before my training started in February and I am still running 25-30miles a week, I know over the next 2 weeks it will taper off more. My week didnt start off well at all, first run of the week was a 30minute recovery run, I had been at work all da....

I'll have the pasta please

Date Created: 23:04:2012

So, that’s it now. Bar a small 15 minute jog on Saturday, I’ve finished my training ! Nothing left to do apart from stay free from injury, drink plenty of water and start the pasta assault ! I’m storing carbohydrates now ready for the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday. I’m setting off for London tomorrow morning as I am keen to avoid the huge crowds at the Marathon registration in Canary Wharf. I’ll register quickly and be on my way ignoring the pl....

Running in the rain

Date Created: 23:04:2012

Well it was going to happen at some stage, and I’m just amazed it took 7 months into training before it did . . . Yes, a car deliberately steered into a puddle next to where I was running and drenched me. Six months ago I would have sworn, cursed and levitated a number of different finger combinations at the driver. But now . . . I just shrugged my shoulder and murmured “Whatever” and carried on.....

Reverse Psychology?

Date Created: 23:04:2012

So, here’s what my Dad said to me when I announced back in November that I was entering the London Marathon. “There are such things as a step [or steps, or metres, or kilometres] too far – this might be one of them!” Now, his comments joined others from friends  like “Marathon changed its name to Snickers years ago ”....

Running with feeling

Date Created: 13:04:2012

Damn ! I returned from a weekend away needing a long run and my Garmin was only 17% charged.  How could I cope ? My watch is like a security blanket for a young kid. I check my pace and heart rate and I’m not convinced that it isn’t responsible for making my legs move. Could I manage to run unattended?  Would I be able to get through? Do you know what? After 8 miles when the battery finally ran out and I had 4 miles left to run – I ran b....

Nutrition time!!

Date Created: 10:04:2012

I really cant believe I am only 3 weeks away from running the London Marathon, the past few weeks have just whizzed by me so fast. Training has been going really well, I have had a mad panic that my long runs just havent been long enough and I am not prepared enough for the big day, can I run another 10miles more on the big day or will I crash and burn?  After a panic stricken email to Debbie at Full Potential she send me a lovely email reassuring me that the big day isnt j....
