About Us

Welcome to the Full Potential team....

Keith Anderson

At the age of 30, Keith was stuck in a rut; he was an overweight smoker and had a stressful job as a chef. Initially he took up running to lose weight and this started a unique journey that would ultimately see him finish 10th in the Marathon for England in the 1998 Commonwealth Games at the age of 41. He spent time training at altitude in Kenya and the Pyrenees and regularly competed against some of the world’s best athletes across Europe and the United States.

Keith was a hard working athlete and a fierce competitor but he has never forgotten how difficult and misinformed his first attempts at training, fitness and weight loss were. He has also never forgotten the sheer pleasure of being able to just enjoy running. What he did learn was that it’s not just about hard training!

Keith has advised many hundreds of runners, from complete beginners through to international athletes and has also written coaching articles featured in Runner’s World, Running Fitness, Peak Performance and a number of running books and websites. He has also created and delivered a variety of training camps, races and running events and his coaching and competitive experiences make him uniquely qualified to help you achieve all your running and fitness goals.

Nick Anderson

Nick is a former P.E teacher & Head Athletics Coach at Winchester College. As an ex-national athlete, he has a full understanding of the challenges that all runners face.  He openly talks about the mistakes he made both as a junior athlete and during the years he spent training to become a successful senior athlete.

These experiences helped to fuel a passion that has lead to a career as a top class coach. Nick has been coaching since 1994 and is the GB Endurance and Cross-Country Coach and a UKA Level 4 Coach.  It is not only his knowledge and understanding of the sport, but also his motivational style and passion that makes him one of the country’s leading coaches.  Nick directs and presents the UK’s most exciting Young Athlete training camps (www.youngathlete.co.uk) and writes articles each month for Runners World as well as other magazines such as Men’s Health and Harpers Bazaar on a wide range of running-related topics.

Nick has a wealth of qualifications and experience in many areas of the running and fitness industry and his portfolio of athletes ranges from the elite right through to those looking to run their very first marathon.  His energy, passion and enthusiasm will ensure you reach your full potential.

Liz Yelling

Liz has 15 years experience as a top class international athlete.  She has developed a world class reputation as an outstanding endurance performer, winning the Bronze medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and finishing first Briton home in the Athens Olympic marathon in 2004.  Liz ran the London Marathon in April 2008, where she finished 9th, with a personal best time of 2.28.33 and secured her place in the Beijing Olympics 2008.  She has represented Great Britain at 10 World XC Championships, finished the top European runner with a fine 15th place in 2008 and has been a member of the Bronze medal winning teams in 1998 and 2004.  Liz has won team Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the European XC Champs, has finished in the top six 3 times, has won the British Championships at XC and half marathon distances and has been ranked World No.1 cross country runner.  In 2008 Liz won her 4th National cross country championships title and also won the British Half marathon and British Marathon titles.  She has represented Great Britain over 25 times on the roads, track and cross country and is highly respected as one of the UK’s finest female athletes.

It’s not all about elite performance for Liz though.  Although an elite herself, Liz is not elitist.  She takes a very down to earth approach to running and shares her experiences in a friendly, positive and welcoming way.  Liz has recently published her first coaching book ‘The Woman’s Guide to Running’ and is the women’s editor of ‘Running fitness’ magazine, where she contributes regular features about all aspects of women’s running health, coaching, nutrition, and lifestyle. A qualified P.E. teacher, Liz is also UKA endurance coach (Level 2), a UKA ‘mentor’ for junior talent and is a member of the UKA National Event Management Committee for Endurance.  She is also a qualified in sports nutrition and is a Register of Exercise Professionals advanced instructor.

Having been personally coached by Alex Stanton (UK Sports coach of the year 2003 and coach to world marathon record holder, Paula Radcliffe) for over 20 years, she has developed a real knowledge of coaching methods, principle and practices.  Liz is as passionate about her own running as she is about helping others achieve their own health, lifestyle and performance potential and has helped many runners from total beginners through to internationals achieve their running and fitness goals.   Liz really is an expert at helping people achieve running heights they’d previously thought impossible!

As a professional athlete, Martin has twice won the elite British Duathalon Championships and was ranked World No.13 in 2004.  Martin has represented Great Britain at 8 Elite World Championships and has competed in numerous duathalon, triathlon and running events throughout the UK and all over the world. In 2008 Martin competed in the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii and finished extremely tired and hot, but happy!  As a runner, Martin competed for England and won medals at National level.  Martin’s sister, Hayley, won the European Cross Country Championships in 2004 and he is married to UK marathon star Liz.

Barbara Yff

Barbara joined the University of Winchester in September 2007 as an associate lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology, and became a full time lecturer in January 2008.  Before she’d realised she wanted to be a Sport & Exercise Physiologist, she completed a Masters in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and went on to do a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science at King’s College London. After working for a pharmaceutical company in research and development, she decided she wanted to be more involved in sport instead, so went ‘back to school’ to complete a Masters in Sports Performance at the University of Portsmouth.  Being fascinated by the physiology of sport, Barbara was not content to merely sit and observe it from the sidelines! She has been a keen runner for several years and has run for Serpentine RC as well as Winchester & District AC, and thinks the most rewarding race to run is a successful marathon.
